Chaka Khan<\/strong>‘s song “I’m Every Woman” was released in 1984 but has stood the test of the time. Speaking to Variety<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, she says she thinks “it must touch some important aspect of something.\u201d<\/p>\n

“It means something to a lot of people \u2014 and not just women,” Chaka adds. “You\u2019d be surprised: When I\u2019m on a stage doing it, I get as many men as women cheering and singing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chaka performed the hit song at the American Music Awards 50th anniversary celebration Sunday and was joined by Sheila E.<\/strong>, who says she was “excited” to hit the stage with her drums for that song.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just excited she asked me to do this, because its been so long since I actually did the AMAs,\u201d said Sheila. \u201cThe connection I have with \u2018I\u2019m Every Woman,’ that song is actually iconic because of Chaka. Everyone sings that\u2019s song. It\u2019s more like an anthem.\u201d<\/p>\n

“I’m Every Woman” peaked at\u00a0#21 on the\u00a0Billboard\u00a0<\/em>Hot 100 and was recently certified Gold. Whitney Houston<\/strong> later covered the song for\u00a0The Bodyguard\u00a0<\/em>soundtrack, saying Chaka’s name at the end of the song. Her version\u00a0peaked at #4 on the Hot 100, #1 on the\u00a0Hot Dance Club Play\u00a0chart, #5 on the\u00a0Hot R&B\/Hip-Hop Songs\u00a0chart and among the\u00a0top 40 on the\u00a0Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks\u00a0chart.<\/p>\n
