New documentary\u00a0<\/span>The Session Man<\/span><\/em>\u00a0about the late rock keyboardist Nicky Hopkins<\/strong>\u00a0is out now on Prime Video, giving fans insight into the famed musician who played on records by\u00a0The Beatles<\/strong>, The Who<\/strong>, The Kinks<\/strong>,\u00a0The Rolling Stones<\/strong> and more.<\/span><\/p>\n

The film features interviews with\u00a0Keith Richards<\/strong> and Mick Jagger<\/strong>, as well as The Kinks’ Dave Davies<\/strong>, The Who’s Pete Townshend <\/strong>and\u00a0Peter Frampton<\/strong>, who met Hopkins when he was hired to play guitar\u00a0on Harry<\/strong> Nilsson<\/strong>‘s album\u00a0<\/span>Son of Schmilsson.<\/span><\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cNicky and I hit it off straight away,\u201d Frampton tells ABC Audio. \u201cI mean, he was a gentle soul, a gentle man, and very much so. And that shows in his emotional playing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Newly minted rock & Roll Hall of Famer Frampton thinks Hopkins deserves to be in the Rock Hall as well, especially when you consider his body of work. He played on The Beatles’ “Revolution,” as well as the Stones’\u00a0<\/span>Exile on Main St. <\/span><\/em>and<\/span> Let It Bleed;\u00a0<\/span><\/em>The Who’s\u00a0<\/span>Who’s Next;<\/span><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>The Kinks’\u00a0<\/span>Face to Face<\/span><\/em>;<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>and\u00a0John Lennon<\/strong>‘s<\/span> Imagine. <\/span><\/em>He played on<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>250 albums in all.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c[Do] you know the list of people he played with?\u201d says Frampton. \u201cIt’s incredible who he\u00a0<\/span>didn’t\u00a0<\/span><\/em>play with!”<\/span><\/p>\n

When it comes to the many classics Hopkins played on, Frampton\u00a0says you can really get the feel for who he was as an artist by listening to his work on\u00a0Joe Cocker<\/strong>\u2019s top five hit, \u201cYou Are So Beautiful.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, it’s just Joe and him playing piano,” Frampton says. “And it’s an incredible piece of piano playing. So he was definitely a genius. Didn’t realize it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He adds, \u201cYou know, I’m sure he knew he was good. But that was the beautiful thing about him. He was always so modest and that’s why I was a friend of his.”<\/span><\/p>\n
