Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/strong> is opening up about his experience playing Bob Dylan<\/strong>\u00a0in the upcoming movie <\/span>A Complete Unknown.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

In an interview with <\/span>Apple Music\u2019s\u00a0Zane Lowe<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, <\/span><\/em>Chalamet calls playing Dylan \u201cthe most unique challenge I\u2019ve taken on,\u201d but notes he gained his confidence by\u00a0performing all the movie’s music live.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe it was the least responsible thing on the actor\u2019s part because the music exists and the performances exist,\u201d he said. And while Chalamet did prerecord songs, in the end he opted to sing live during filming because he felt the recorded tunes\u00a0were \u201ctoo clean,\u201d noting, \u201cThere’s not a single prerecord in the movie.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

While fans may be hoping to learn a lot more about Dylan watching the film, Chalamet warns that they aren\u2019t really seeing a true biopic on the legendary singer.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not definitive, this is interpretive, this is not fact, this is not how it happened,\u201d he says. \u201cThis is a fable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

As for how he approached playing Dylan, Chalamet explains why he didn\u2019t want to directly mimic the singer.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSomebody once said to me, \u2018You can’t make a movie about a painter because it’s not interesting to watch paint dry,\u2019\u201d he\u00a0said. “Bob has that element because he’s not one of these forward-facing musicians.”<\/span><\/p>\n

And while he did have a vocal and dialect coach,\u00a0Chalamet says he found that it wasn’t “my style” or Dylan’s either.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBob did not have a vocal coach. He had two bottles of red wine and four packs of cigarettes,\u201d he said. \u201cThere’s no way to impersonate that.”<\/span><\/p>\n

A Complete Unknown<\/span><\/em> opens Dec. 25.<\/span><\/p>\n
