A piano used to record\u00a0“Layla,” by Eric Clapton<\/strong>‘s band Derek and the Dominos,<\/strong>\u00a0is one of the many items going up for auction as part of a collection from the legendary Hit Factory recording studio in New York.<\/span><\/p>\n

Items that will be available come from the personal archives of Danielle Germano<\/strong>, daughter of the recording studio\u2019s founder,\u00a0Ed Germano<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a01960s Baldwin studio piano\u00a0up for auction was purchased by the\u00a0Hit Factory from\u00a0Miami\u2019s Criteria Studios in the 1990s. It was\u00a0used not only on \u201cLayla,\u201d but also during the recording of the Allman<\/strong> Brothers Band<\/strong>\u00a0album <\/span>Eat a Peach <\/span><\/em>and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>Lynyrd Skynyrd<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>Street Survivors<\/span><\/em>. It was also played by several big-name artists, including Aretha Franklin<\/strong> and Ray Charles<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also being auctioned off is an original file from Germano\u2019s belongings described as the \u201cfinal session\u201d of John Lennon<\/strong>\u2019s 1980 album,\u00a0<\/span>Double Fantasy<\/span><\/em>, the final album he recorded before his death.\u00a0There are also hundreds of record awards, from such artists as Lennon, Clapton, The Rolling Stones <\/strong>and\u00a0Bruce Springsteen<\/strong>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

The auction is being handled by Eaton & Brennan and will run online from Nov. 13 to Dec. 4.<\/span><\/p>\n
