Legendary soul singer Al Green<\/strong> is back with a new song, dropping\u00a0a cover of the R.E.M.<\/strong> classic \u201c<\/span>Everybody Hurts<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhile we were in the studio recording \u2018Everybody Hurts,\u2019 I could really feel the heaviness of the song and I wanted to inject a little touch of hope and light into it,\u201d the 78-year-old Green shares. \u201cThere\u2019s always a presence of light that can break through those times of darkness.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

And the cover has already gotten the attention of R.E.M.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSpeaking on behalf of the entire band\u2014we could not be more honored, more flattered, more humbled,\u201d frontman Michael Stipe<\/strong> shares. \u201cThis is an epic moment for us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Green’s cover of “Everybody Hurts” is available now via <\/span>digital outlets<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The tune is the first song released by Green since sharing a cover of Lou Reed<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cPerfect Day\u201d back in 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Everybody Hurts” appeared on R.E.M.’s eighth studio album,\u00a0<\/span>Automatic For The People<\/span><\/em>, and was a top-40 hit for the band.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
