{"id":30897,"date":"2024-11-20T21:02:57","date_gmt":"2024-11-20T21:02:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/101gold\/yes-jon-davison-responds-to-lawsuit-over-song-dare-to-know\/"},"modified":"2024-11-20T21:02:57","modified_gmt":"2024-11-20T21:02:57","slug":"yes-jon-davison-responds-to-lawsuit-over-song-dare-to-know","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/101gold\/yes-jon-davison-responds-to-lawsuit-over-song-dare-to-know\/","title":{"rendered":"Yes\u2019 Jon Davison responds to lawsuit over song &#8216;Dare To Know&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/syndication.abcaudio.com\/files\/2024-11-20\/Getty_YesDavisonHowe_111423.jpg\" alt><figcaption>Paul Zimmerman\/WireImage<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Current <strong>Yes<\/strong> frontman <strong>Jon Davison<\/strong> has issued a statement regarding the copyright lawsuit filed by his former friend and bandmate <strong>Riz Story<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Story, whose legal name is\u00a0<strong>Rudolph Zahler<\/strong>, is claiming Davison and Yes\u2019 <strong>Steve Howe<\/strong> stole the music from his song \u201cReunion,\u201d which was featured in the indie movie <\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">A Winter Rose<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\">, for the Yes song \u201cDare To Know,\u201d\u00a0which appeared on the band&#8217;s\u00a02021 album,\u00a0<\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">The Quest<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt\u2019s hard to put in words how it feels to wake up one day to hear that a person who I thought was a friend has brought not only an utterly fictitious, but also, a defamatory case against me,\u201d Davis shared on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/yesworld.com\/2024\/11\/jon-davison-statement-november-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Yes\u2019 website<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span class=\"s1\">, calling Riz\u2019s claims \u201cblatant lies.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Davison says he and the band have\u00a0evidence proving they didn\u2019t steal \u201cReunion,\u201d and says the musicologist report in Riz\u2019s suit that claims the songs are similar \u201cis seriously flawed and uses deceptive methods to force a similarity that is not there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Davison goes on to\u00a0say he didn\u2019t write \u201cDare To Know,\u201d and that he never heard Riz\u2019s composition \u201cReunion\u201d\u00a0and didn&#8217;t\u00a0see the movie, noting he only congratulated him on the film \u201cout of politeness.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He also says it\u2019s \u201ca complete fabrication\u201d that he talked about the music from the film with Riz, adding, \u201cThe \u2018composition\u2019 isn\u2019t even on the soundtrack album, so I couldn\u2019t have even stumbled across it by accident.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cAny suggestion that I might have heard this generic melody when we were younger, let alone thought it was worthy of Yes, is utterly absurd,\u201d Davison says. \u201cOur lawyer described this as a \u2018shakedown\u2019, and I can see no better word for it.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2024, ABC Audio.
