The surviving original members of the Grateful Dead<\/strong>\u00a0just revealed that a 60th anniversary reunion was in the works prior to the October death of band member Phil Lesh<\/strong> at the age of 84.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bobby Weir<\/strong>, Bill Kreutzmann<\/strong>\u00a0and Mickey Hart<\/strong>\u00a0shared the news in an interview with <\/span>CBS Mornings<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a>, taped just five days after Lesh\u2019s death, with the\u00a0trio noting that Lesh was supposed to take part in the interview as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was hoping that we could play with him again one more time,\u201d Kreutzmann shared of their bandmate, \u201cso that was my sadness on that one. Because I know he wanted to play with us again, too.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe were kicking it around,\u201d Weir said of the idea of playing together again. \u201cWe were gonna get together and, and kick some songs around tomorrow.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

All three\u00a0musicians confirmed there was some discussion about\u00a0the four of them coming together to celebrate the band\u2019s 60th anniversary in 2025, but it likely won\u2019t happen now because of Lesh\u2019s death.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe just don\u2019t have enough to put a band together right now,\u201d Weir said, with Kreutzmann adding, \u201cWell not the three of us,” although he suggested\u00a0if they did it would have to be with guest musicians.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was hopin\u2019 that we could do it for the 60th. Would be fun,\u201d Kreutzmann\u00a0said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe were gonna see where it goes. But we were just gonna play the four of us. And now there\u2019s only three of us \u2026 that\u2019s different,” Weir said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The interview comes ahead of the\u00a0Grateful Dead’s\u00a0latest honor: they are set to receive the\u00a0Kennedy Center Honors in December. They will also be celebrated as the 2025 MusiCares Person of the Year in February.<\/span><\/p>\n
