Queen<\/strong>\u2019s Roger Taylor<\/strong> is defending the Band Aid charity after it received criticism for\u00a0its decision to release a 40th anniversary remix of the charity single \u201cDo They Know It\u2019s Christmas?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The original “<\/span>Do They Know It’s Christmas?<\/span>” was spearheaded by\u00a0Bob Geldof<\/strong>\u00a0and released in 1984, featuring\u00a0a collection of U.K. stars that included\u00a0U2<\/strong>‘s\u00a0Bono<\/strong>,\u00a0Sting<\/strong>,\u00a0Phil Collins<\/strong>,\u00a0Duran Duran\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Paul Young<\/strong>. The song was later revived in 1989, 2004 and 2014, each time with artists who were popular at that moment.<\/span><\/p>\n

The remix\u00a0mashes together\u00a0vocals from\u00a0the different versions of the song over the years. But when it was announced, Ed Sheeran<\/strong>, who appeared on the 2014 version, wrote on Instagram that if he had known about the remix, he would have denied Geldof permission to use his vocals. He cited an Instagram Story by Ghanian-English musician\u00a0Fuse ODG<\/strong>, in which Fuse wrote that such all-star charity projects “perpetuate damaging stereotypes.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Taylor\u00a0has now taken to social media to share how\u00a0he feels about being on the single, and he can\u2019t understand the criticism.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cProud to be a part of this. It\u2019s probably one of the greatest moments in rock \u2019n\u2019 roll history actually having an effect on the world!\u201d he <\/span>shared on Instagram<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0next to the Band Aid 40 logo. \u201cHow anyone can criticise such a magnificent and charitable project, which continues to save so many lives from famine is beyond comprehension. They need their heads examined and their values readjusted. <\/span>#bandaid40<\/span>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
