On This Day, Dec. 5, 1974\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Paul McCartney and Wings\u00a0<\/strong>released their third album,\u00a0<\/span>Band on the Run<\/span><\/em>, which became a huge hit and to this day remains McCartney\u2019s most successful non-Beatles\u00a0<\/strong>album.<\/span><\/p>\n

The album produced two hits, the title track and \u201cJet,\u201d and went to #1 in the U.S. and the U.K.<\/span><\/p>\n

The cover depicted McCartney, his wife\u00a0Linda,\u00a0<\/strong>and guitarist\u00a0Denny Laine\u00a0<\/strong>posing with actors\u00a0James Coburn\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Christopher Lee<\/strong>, British boxer\u00a0John Conteh<\/strong>, U.K. broadcasters\u00a0Michael Parkinson\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Clement Freud<\/strong>, and English entertainer\u00a0Kenny Lynch<\/strong>, all dressed as escaped convicts.<\/span><\/p>\n

To celebrate the anniversary, McCartney released a special 50th anniversary edition of the album in February.<\/span><\/p>\n

The reissue reentered the <\/span>Billboard<\/span><\/em> 200 at #156, and landed in the top 10 on three other\u00a0<\/span>Billboard\u00a0<\/span><\/em>charts: the Top Album Sales chart, where it reentered at #5; the Vinyl Albums chart, where it debuted at #7; and the Tastemaker Albums chart, where\u00a0it hit #6. It also debuted at #37 on the Rock & Alternative Albums chart.<\/span><\/p>\n
