Saturday, Dec. 14, marks the 40th anniversary of Foreigner<\/strong>\u2019s fifth studio album,\u00a0<\/span>Agent Provocateur<\/span><\/em>, which was a huge hit for the band.<\/span><\/p>\n

The album was a top-five hit, landing at #4 on the <\/span>Billboard<\/span><\/em> 200, and\u00a0earned\u00a0a triple\u00a0Platinum\u00a0certification by\u00a0the RIAA.\u00a0The record is best known for its hit\u00a0ballad \u201c<\/span>I Want To Know What Love Is<\/strong><\/span><\/a>,\u201d which spent three weeks on top of the <\/span>Billboard<\/span><\/em> Hot 100 and became the band\u2019s only #1 song.<\/span><\/p>\n

But despite the success of \u201cI Want to Know What Love Is,\u201d\u00a0Foreigner frontman Lou Gramm<\/strong> wasn\u2019t particularly happy that it was the album\u2019s first single, especially since the last hit from\u00a0their\u00a0previous album, <\/span>4<\/span><\/em>, was another ballad, \u201cWaiting for a Girl Like You.”<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI seriously think it did some damage to our rock credibility,\u201d he tells ABC Audio. \u201cThere were comments in editorials about how some of our rock fans felt like we were letting them down.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

As for the album itself,\u00a0Gramm\u00a0says \u201cthere’s some great songs on there,\u201d noting that some of them were \u201ccompletely overlooked.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He adds, \u201cSo, you know, I think it’s a very good album.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But apparently the album didn’t damage their rock credibility too much, as Foreigner was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in October. Despite his feelings about the song,\u00a0Gramm\u00a0performed “I Want To Know What Love Is” with Kelly Clarkson<\/strong> during the induction ceremony.<\/span><\/p>\n
