U2<\/strong>\u2019s Larry Mullen Jr.<\/strong> has issues with numbers, and it\u2019s more than just not being good at math.<\/span><\/p>\n

In an interview with the U.K.\u2019s <\/span>Times Radio<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the U2 drummer shared that he\u2019s recently been diagnosed with dyscalculia, a learning disability\u00a0that results in difficulty learning or comprehending arithmetic, sometimes referred to as \u201cmath dyslexia.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always known that there\u2019s something not particularly right with the way that I deal with numbers. I\u2019m numerically challenged,\u201d he shared. \u201cAnd I realized recently that I have dyscalculia, which is a subversion of dyslexia. So I can\u2019t count [and] I can\u2019t add.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

His issues with numbers can cause a problem when playing music, with Mullen sharing it\u2019s often the reason he seems to have a \u201cpained\u201d face while drumming with the band.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen people watch me play sometimes, they say, \u2018You look pained.\u2019 I am pained because I\u2019m trying to count the bars,\u201d he explained. \u201cI had to find ways of doing this \u2014 and counting bars is like climbing Everest.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

This is the first time Mullen has talked about his learning disability, and he made the revelation while promoting the new documentary <\/span>Left Behind<\/span><\/em>, which he co-produced. He also wrote two songs for the film,\u00a0\u201c<\/span>Between The Lines<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u201d featuring\u00a0GAYLE\u00a0<\/strong>and \u201c<\/span>One of Us<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u201d featuring Welsh singer\u00a0Donna Lewis<\/strong>, which are out now.<\/span><\/p>\n

The film tells the story of the New York City mothers who fought to open the city’s first public school for dyslexic children. The subject of the film is a personal one for Mullen; his son is dyslexic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Left Behind\u00a0<\/span><\/em>is set to open Jan. 17 for a weeklong engagement at New York City’s QUAD Cinema. It will then expand to select theaters nationwide.<\/span><\/p>\n
