Bangles<\/strong> frontwoman Susanna Hoffs<\/strong> has teamed with Elvis Costello<\/strong> to release a cover of The Rolling Stones<\/strong>\u2019 \u201c<\/span>Connection<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u201d\u00a0in celebration of\u00a0Stones guitarist Keith Richards<\/strong>‘ 81st birthday on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I did the Keith part,\u201d Hoffs shares in a press release. \u201cWe both wanted to do the Keith part, but I won!”<\/span><\/p>\n

She notes of the collaboration, “I had the great honor of singing with Elvis at a couple of his shows, and it was a lifelong dream to record a song together.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Connection,” from The Stones’ 1967 album\u00a0<\/span>Between the Buttons<\/span><\/em>, was written mostly by Keith but is credited to him and Mick Jagger<\/strong>. Hoffs says it’s one of her favorite\u00a0songs by the band.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI love Keith\u2014his smile, his swagger, his songwriting\u2014the way he moves on stage, as if his guitar is a part of his body and together they meld with the music and the emotion of the song,\u201d she shares.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Connection\u201d is available now <\/span>via digital outlets<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

And Susanna isn\u2019t the only one marking Keith\u2019s birthday; his bandmates all posted birthday wishes on social media.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cToday we celebrate the one and only\u00a0<\/span>@officialkeef<\/span>\u00a0on his birthday!!\u201d read a post on the <\/span>band\u2019s Instagram<\/strong><\/span><\/a>. \u201cHappy Birthday Keith wishing you the best day.\u201d Meanwhile,\u00a0<\/span>Jagger shared<\/strong><\/span><\/a> a throwback photo of the two of them, writing, \u201cHappy birthday <\/span>@officialkeef<\/span>! Love Mick,\u201d and Ronnie Wood<\/strong> <\/span>shared a video<\/strong><\/span><\/a> of them playing guitar together with the message \u201cSoul brother. Happy birthday Keith.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
