{"id":31083,"date":"2024-12-20T00:02:36","date_gmt":"2024-12-20T00:02:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/101gold\/earth-wind-fires-verdine-white-releases-song-in-honor-of-late-brother-maurices-83rd-birthday\/"},"modified":"2024-12-20T00:02:36","modified_gmt":"2024-12-20T00:02:36","slug":"earth-wind-fires-verdine-white-releases-song-in-honor-of-late-brother-maurices-83rd-birthday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/101gold\/earth-wind-fires-verdine-white-releases-song-in-honor-of-late-brother-maurices-83rd-birthday\/","title":{"rendered":"Earth, Wind &amp; Fire&#8217;s Verdine White releases song in honor of late brother Maurice&#8217;s 83rd birthday"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/syndication.abcaudio.com\/files\/2024-12-19\/Getty_VerdineSmith_121924_0.png\" alt><figcaption>Photo by John Medina\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><strong>Verdine White<\/strong> stepped out on his own to honor his late brother and fellow founder of <strong>Earth, Wind &amp; Fire<\/strong>, <strong>Maurice White<\/strong>, who would have celebrated his 83rd birthday Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mCNI0atKCtY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Superman<\/strong><\/a>,&#8221; featuring\u00a0<strong>Honey Cone<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Shelly Clark White<\/strong>, <strong>Kathy Merrick<\/strong> and <strong>Wendy Smith-Brun\u00e9<\/strong> on backing vocals, finds Verdine expressing his thoughts about Maurice on the chorus.\u00a0\u201cMore than any other\/ He would always understand\/ He called me his little brother\/ I called him Superman,&#8221; he sings on the song, accompanied by a video that features pictures of Maurice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Superman&#8221; marks the first time Verdine, known as EWF&#8217;s bassist, has sung solo.\u00a0\u201cWould you believe this is my first time,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/rb-hip-hop\/earth-wind-and-fire-verdine-white-honors-maurice-white-new-song-superman-1235861666\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>he tells <\/strong><em><strong>Billboard<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. \u201cI was nervous, but it turned out beautifully. Now that the pressure is off, I think I\u2019ll do more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He says he thinks Maurice would have heard the song, chuckled\u00a0and said, &#8220;Man, I didn\u2019t know you could sing like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto lrv-a-font-body-m \">\u201cMaurice is the icon,\u201d Verdine adds of his late brother, who he called &#8220;a great leader, great big brother, great mentor.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto lrv-a-font-body-m \">&#8220;He did a magnificent job in putting together Earth, Wind &amp; Fire,&#8221; he continues. &#8220;We miss him dearly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto lrv-a-font-body-m \">Maurice passed away from Parkinson\u2019s disease in 2016.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto lrv-a-font-body-m \">&#8220;Superman&#8221; is now available on all platforms through Distrokid.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2024, ABC Audio.
