On This Day, Dec. 20, 1969 …<\/span><\/p>\n

The Rolling Stones\u00a0<\/strong>had a new U.K. #1 with their album\u00a0<\/span>Let It Bleed<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The album, the follow-up to 1968\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Beggars Banquet<\/span><\/em>, failed to produce any charting singles, although tracks like \u201cGimme Shelter\u201d and \u201cYou Can\u2019t Always Get What You Want\u201d went on to become Stones classics, and staples at their live shows.<\/span><\/p>\n

Let It Bleed\u00a0<\/span><\/em>was the last album The Stones made with founding member\u00a0Brian Jones<\/strong>, as he was fired in the middle of the sessions due to his erratic behavior. In the end he appeared on only two songs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jones died July 3, 1969, before the album\u2019s release.<\/span><\/p>\n
