British punk band The Clash<\/strong> and legendary superstar\u00a0Prince<\/strong> have been chosen to receive the Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be handed out during the Academy\u2019s Special Merit Awards Ceremony during Grammy week in February.<\/span><\/p>\n

The honor is\u00a0given\u00a0to performers who \u201cduring their lifetimes, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s other Lifetime Achievement Award honorees include blues musician\u00a0Taj Mahal<\/strong>, Four Seasons<\/strong> singer\u00a0Frankie Valli<\/strong>,\u00a0R&B singer Frankie Beverly<\/strong>, hip-hop artist Roxanne Shante<\/strong> and gospel vocalist Dr. Bobby Jones<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an amazing privilege to honor this eclectic group of music icons during the year\u2019s biggest week in music,\u201d Harvey Mason Jr<\/strong>., CEO of the Recording Academy, shares. \u201cEach of this year\u2019s Special Merit Award recipients has left an indelible mark on music, from paving the way for others to innovation that forever has changed the trajectory of the musical landscape. We can\u2019t wait to celebrate this group and their achievements in February.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Recording Academy\u2019s Special Merit Awards Ceremony is set to take place Feb. 1 in Los Angeles. The Grammys air live from LA on Feb. 2 on CBS and will stream live on Paramount+.<\/span><\/p>\n
