It\u2019s always sad when our favorite musicians pass away, and in 2024 we had to do say goodbye to several\u00a0artists who made a huge impact on music.<\/span><\/p>\n

Grateful Dead\u00a0<\/strong>fans were shocked when it was announced that bassist\u00a0Phil Lesh\u00a0<\/strong>died on Oct. 25 at 84. Lesh, who cofounded the iconic jam band with\u00a0Jerry Garcia<\/strong>,\u00a0Bobby Weir<\/strong>,\u00a0Ron \u201cPigpen\u201d McKernan\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Bill Kreutzmann\u00a0<\/strong>in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1965, co-wrote several of the band’s iconic tunes, including “Truckin'” and “Box of Rain.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Another great loss to the music world happened on\u00a0April 18 when\u00a0Allman Brothers Band\u00a0<\/strong>founding member\u00a0Dickey Betts\u00a0<\/strong>died at the age of 80.<\/span><\/p>\n

Betts, who cofounded the group in 1969 along with brothers\u00a0Duane\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Gregg Allman<\/strong>,\u00a0Berry Oakley<\/strong>,\u00a0Butch Trucks\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Jaimoe Johanson<\/strong>,\u00a0wrote and sang lead on songs like \u201cRamblin\u2019 Man,\u201d their only top-10 hit, and \u201cBlue Sky.” He also composed their well-known instrumentals, including \u201cJessica” and \u201cIn Memory of Elizabeth Reed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

And on\u00a0<\/span>Nov. 3,\u00a0legendary music producer Quincy Jones<\/strong>\u00a0passed away at the age of 91. Jones was the producer behind Michael Jackson<\/strong>\u2019s hit albums Off The Wall<\/em> and Thriller.<\/em>\u00a0He\u00a0was nominated for 80 Grammy Awards, of which he won 28, during his decadeslong career.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jan. 23:\u00a0Frank Farian<\/strong>, German record producer who founded\u00a0Milli Vanilli<\/strong>, 82<\/span><\/p>\n

Jan. 23:\u00a0Melanie Safka<\/strong>, best known for her breakthrough appearance at Woodstock and her #1 hit \u201cBrand New Key,\u201d 76<\/span><\/p>\n

Feb. 7:\u00a0Henry Fambrough<\/strong>, the last surviving original member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame R&B group\u00a0The Spinners<\/strong>, 85<\/span><\/p>\n

March 11:\u00a0Eric Carmen<\/strong>, best known for hits like “Hungry Eyes” and “All By Myself,” 74<\/span><\/p>\n

April 24:\u00a0Mike Pinder<\/strong>, keyboardist, vocalist and founding member of\u00a0The Moody Blues<\/strong>, 82<\/span><\/p>\n

April 30: Guitar great\u00a0Duane Eddy<\/strong>, who had 15 top-40 singles throughout the late ’50s and early ’60s, 86<\/span><\/p>\n

May 1:\u00a0ELO\u00a0<\/strong>keyboardist\u00a0Richard Tandy<\/strong>, who appeared on all of ELO\u2019s records since 1973\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>ELO 2<\/span><\/em>, 76<\/span><\/p>\n

May 12: Saxophonist\u00a0David Sanborn<\/strong>, who performed and recorded with a whole host of musicians, including\u00a0David Bowie<\/strong>,\u00a0James Taylor\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Eric Clapton<\/strong>, 78<\/span><\/p>\n

May 24:\u00a0Iron Butterfly\u00a0<\/strong>founder and lead vocalist\u00a0Doug Ingle<\/strong>, who cowrote their signature song, “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida,” 78<\/span><\/p>\n

July 22:\u00a0Duke Fakir<\/strong>, founding member of the\u00a0Four Tops<\/strong>, 88<\/span><\/p>\n

July 22:\u00a0John Mayall<\/strong>, British blues and rock musician, and mentor to\u00a0Eric Clapton, who was posthumously inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year, 90<\/span><\/p>\n

Aug. 13:\u00a0Greg Kihn<\/strong>, best known for hits like \u201cJeopardy\u201d and \u201cThe Breakup Song,\u201d 75<\/span><\/p>\n
