Bono<\/strong> has added another honor to his list of achievements. The U2<\/strong> frontman was at the White House Saturday, where he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom,\u00a0considered the nation’s\u00a0highest civilian honor.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the White House, the honor\u00a0is given to people who\u2019ve made “exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values or security of the United States, world peace or other significant societal, public or private endeavors.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Biden believes great leaders keep the faith, give everyone a fair shot, and put decency above all else,\u201d read a statement from the White House, noting that Bono and the other 18 individuals honored \u201care great leaders who have made America and the world a better place. They are great leaders because they are good people who have made extraordinary contributions to their country and the world.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Bono was recognized for his work fighting against AIDS and poverty, including co-founding the ONE and (RED) organizations, as well as his work bringing politicians together to create the United States <\/span>PEPFAR AIDS<\/strong><\/span><\/a> program.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Presidential Medal of Freedom is awarded to Bono. As lead singer of U2, one of the most successful rock bands in history, Bono changes the world through his art and activism,\u201d read the citation for Bono,\u00a0which was read by\u00a0the military as he received his honor. \u201cThe common beat of his life’s work is the power of freedom, a tie that also binds Ireland and America as beloved friends.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Other recipients of this year\u2019s Presidential Medal of Freedom include Denzel Washington<\/strong>, Michael J. Fox<\/strong>, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton<\/strong>, Magic Johnson<\/strong>, <\/span>Vogue<\/span><\/em> editor-in-chief Anna Wintour<\/strong>, chef Jos\u00e9 Andr\u00e9s<\/strong> and designer Ralph Lauren.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
