On This Day, Jan. 6, 1987 …<\/span><\/p>\n

Eric Clapton<\/strong> kicked off a six-night residency at London\u2019s Royal Albert Hall, treating the crowd to such classic songs as \u201cI Shot the Sheriff,\u201d \u201cWonderful Tonight,\u201d \u201cCocaine\u201d and more, including Cream<\/strong> tracks \u201cWhite Room\u201d and \u201cSunshine of Your Love.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The residency soon became an almost yearly event for Clapton. In 1991 he played a whopping 24 shows at Royal Albert Hall, which broke his own record for the longest run of concerts at the venue.<\/span><\/p>\n

During that run, Clapton performed with three lineups \u2014 a rock band, a blues band and an orchestra. In June\u00a0he released a box set,\u00a0<\/span>The Definitive 24 Nights, <\/span><\/em>featuring performances from that run.<\/span><\/p>\n

Clapton’s\u00a0most recent Royal Albert Hall residency took place in May 2024, playing four nights at the venue.\u00a0He\u2019s set to return for three nights in May 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n
