On This Day, Jan. 14, 1980 …<\/p>\n

Rush<\/strong> released their seventh studio album, Permanent Waves<\/em>, which peaked at #4 on the Billboard<\/em> album chart. It was the Canadian band\u2019s first album to land in the top five, making it their most successful album at that time.<\/p>\n

The record featured\u00a0several songs that were considered more radio friendly than previous albums, with\u00a0tracks like \u201cThe Spirit of the Radio” and \u201cFreewill\u201d going on to become Rush classics.<\/p>\n

The album\u00a0closed with a nine-minute track, \u201cNatural Science,\u201d which was composed in three movements.<\/p>\n

Permanent Waves<\/em> went on to be certified Platinum by the RIAA.<\/p>\n
