Devo<\/strong>\u2019s biggest hit single may be the 1980 track \u201cWhip It,\u201d but it turns out it isn\u2019t the group\u2019s biggest moneymaker.<\/p>\n

According to Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/em><\/a>,<\/em> that distinction goes to the tune \u201cUncontrollable Urge,\u201d from their debut album,\u00a0Q. Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!<\/em>, because a cover of the track is\u00a0used as the theme song\u00a0to the MTV series Rob Dyrdek\u2019s Ridiculousness<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The show is aired on the network so often that Mark Mothersbaugh<\/strong>, Devo\u2019s lead singer and main songwriter, earns an estimated $1 million a year from its use, the rocker\u2019s wife and manager,\u00a0Anita Greenspan<\/strong>, tells the mag.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve written so many other songs for films and television shows,\u201d Mothersbaugh says. \u201cI would\u2019ve been shocked [years ago] if you told me this is the one that would become this prime source of income.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among those other songs Mothersbaugh is referring to are the themes for Pee-wee\u2019s Playhouse<\/em> and Rugrats<\/em>, as well as\u00a0scores for several Wes Anderson<\/strong> films.<\/p>\n

Greenspan adds that it\u2019s \u201cironic\u201d they make so much money from MTV, noting that in the early days\u00a0of the network\u00a0it aired a lot of Devo, before the network stopped playing them.<\/p>\n

\u201c[The videos] were subversive, they didn\u2019t like them and wouldn\u2019t play them anymore,” she says. “Now \u2018Uncontrollable Urge\u2019 is easily the most-played song on MTV, so [Devo] wins.\u201d<\/p>\n
