There\u2019s a ton of talk about Bob Dylan<\/strong> these days thanks to the\u00a0biopic\u00a0A Complete Unknown<\/em>, but there\u2019s another reason people should be celebrating the legendary performer.<\/p>\n

Monday, Jan. 20, marks the 50th anniversary of Dylan\u2019s 15th studio album, Blood on the Tracks<\/em>, which is often revered by critics as one of Dylan\u2019s best albums.<\/p>\n

Dylan began working on the\u00a0record as he was experiencing turmoil in his marriage to wife Sara<\/strong>. And while he’s denied in interviews that the songs on the album were inspired by his personal relationship, his son with Sara, musician Jakob Dylan<\/strong>, has been quoted as saying, \u201cWhen I’m listening to Blood On The Tracks<\/em>, that’s about my parents.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dylan initially recorded songs for the album in New York City in September 1974, but before the release he decided to rerecord\u00a0many of the tunes\u00a0in Minneapolis. The final product wound up featuring five tracks from each session.<\/p>\n

Upon its release,\u00a0Blood on The Tracks<\/em> became a huge commercial success for Dylan, peaking at #1 on the Billboard<\/em> 200 and at #4 in the U.K. It\u2019s known for such classic Dylan tracks as \u201cTangled Up in Blue<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d which was a top-40 hit, \u201cShelter From The Storm<\/strong><\/a>\u201d and \u201cSimple Twist of Fate<\/strong><\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

To this day Blood on the Tracks<\/em>\u00a0is one of Dylan\u2019s bestselling records and has been certified\u00a0double Platinum\u00a0for selling over 2 million copies.<\/p>\n

Although initial reviews were mixed,\u00a0Blood on the Tracks<\/em>\u00a0is often included on critics\u2019 lists of the best albums, including Rolling Stones\u2019<\/em>\u00a0500 Greatest Albums of All Time list, where it ranked #9 in 2020. It was also included\u00a0in the book 101 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die<\/em>. In 2015, the album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n
