The trailer for the upcoming documentary on Sly & The Family Stone<\/strong> frontman\u00a0Sly Stone<\/strong> has just been released, featuring archival footage of the legendary performer.<\/p>\n

SLY LIVES! (aka The Burden of Black Genius)<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, directed by The Roots<\/strong>\u2019 Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson<\/strong>, is set to debut Feb. 13 on Hulu and features interviews with musicians like Chaka Khan<\/strong>, OutKast<\/strong>\u2019s Andr\u00e9 3000<\/strong>, Living<\/strong> Colour<\/strong>\u2019s Vernon Reid<\/strong>, Jimmy Jam<\/strong>, George Clinton<\/strong>, Q-Tip<\/strong> and more.<\/p>\n

According to the description, the film \u201cexamines the life and legacy of Sly & The Family Stone,” noting it captures \u201cthe rise, reign and subsequent fadeout of one of pop music\u2019s most influential artists, but also shines a light on how Black artists in America navigate the unseen burden that comes with their success.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sly & The Family Stone released their debut album,\u00a0A Whole New Thing<\/em>, in 1967. They had hits with such songs as “Dance to the Music,” “Everyday People,” “Family Affair” and “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin).”<\/p>\n
