On This Day, Jan 27, 1970\u2026<\/p>\n

John Lennon<\/strong> wrote and recorded the single \u201cInstant Karma\u201d in one day, at one point telling reporters he \u201cwrote it for breakfast, recorded it for lunch, and we\u2019re putting it out for dinner.\u201d<\/p>\n

The song, produced by Phil Spector<\/strong>, featured his Beatles<\/strong> bandmate George Harrison<\/strong> on acoustic guitar and piano, with Lennon\u2019s wife Yoko Ono<\/strong> and Billy Preston<\/strong> contributing background vocals.<\/p>\n

The inspiration for the tune came to Lennon during a visit he and Yoko took to Denmark, where they met up with Yoko\u2019s former husband Tony Cox<\/strong>. Cox\u2019s then wife Melinde Kendell<\/strong> used the term in conversation.<\/p>\n

\u201cInstant Karma,\u201d Lennon\u2019s third solo single, wound up being a hit for the rocker, peaking at #3 on the Billboard<\/em> Hot 100.<\/p>\n
