Just listen to the original recording of The Weight and you\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before striking out on their own, The Band, made up of keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist Hudson, guitarist\/songwriter <strong>Robbie Robertson<\/strong>, keyboardist\/vocalist <strong>Richard Manuel<\/strong>, bassist\/vocalist <strong>Rick Danko<\/strong> and drummer\/vocalist <strong>Levon Helm<\/strong>,\u00a0gained fame as Dylan&#8217;s backing group in the \u201860s, although they were known as <strong>The Hawks<\/strong> at that time.<\/p>\n<p>Hudson was the last surviving member of The Band, who were inducted into Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2025, ABC Audio.
