With the Super Bowl just around the corner, Paul McCartney<\/strong>, who headlined the halftime show in 2005,\u00a0<\/strong>has shared his thoughts on what he calls American football, and it turns out he\u2019s a fan.<\/p>\n

In a new Q&A on his website<\/strong><\/a>, the rocker was asked how he first got into watching the sport, and it seems his wife Linda<\/strong> is responsible.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, being married to Linda meant I was in America quite a bit. We spent a lot of time there with her family and American Football was always on the television,\u201d he explains. \u201cI would watch it with everyone but not really know what was going on!\u201d<\/p>\n

McCartney says he didn\u2019t understand\u00a0the game until Linda clued him in to keep his eye on the quarterback, telling him, \u201cAll the action comes from him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, once I had that clue, I found it much easier to follow,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

\u201cI watched a lot of it and grew to really like it, because it\u2019s quite a complicated and strategic game – and obviously very athletic,\u201d\u00a0Sir Paul\u00a0says, joking, \u201cIn Britain we used to laugh at it, saying, \u2018They wear all those pads and protective gear. We don\u2019t, we\u2019ve got rugby, a proper sport!'”<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I got over all that, and found I really liked it,” he adds. “So yeah, I\u2019m a big fan of football, American-style.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
