Grateful Dead<\/strong> was honored Friday as the MusiCares Person of the Year at a gala in Los Angeles, highlighted by a performance by Dead & Company<\/strong>, featuring surviving Dead members\u00a0Bobby Weir<\/strong> and Mickey Hart<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/em><\/a> <\/em>reports the band\u2019s other surviving member, Bill Kreutzmann,<\/strong>\u00a0didn’t attend, but his son Justin<\/strong> was there to accept his honor, along with the late Phil Lesh<\/strong>\u2019s son Grahame<\/strong> and the late\u00a0Jerry Garcia<\/strong>\u2019s daughter Trixie.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an incredible honor and I\u2019m humbled to stand here tonight,\u201d Hart shared, according to the mag. \u201cBecause not too long ago, they wouldn\u2019t let us into Disneyland. Our hair was too long. And the cops, they were chasing us around the country. Fortunately, they gave up, and we\u2019re here tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Referencing the absence of the band\u2019s late members,\u00a0Weir noted, \u201clongevity was never a major concern of ours; lighting folks up and spreading joy through the music was all we really had in mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

A star-studded lineup of musicians paid tribute to the\u00a0Dead in song,\u00a0starting with Weir, backed by a symphony, performing an instrumental version of \u201cThe Other One.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among the night’s other performances: Sammy Hagar<\/strong> performed \u201cLoose Lucy\u201d; Grahame Lesh joined The War on Drugs<\/strong> for the Lesh-penned track \u201cBox of Rain\u201d;\u00a0Wynonna Judd<\/strong>\u00a0performed \u201cRamble on Rose\u201d;\u00a0The War and Treaty<\/strong> performed \u201cSamson and Delilah\u201d backed by Stewart Copeland<\/strong> and Mick Fleetwood<\/strong>;\u00a0Noah Kahan<\/strong> performed \u201cFriend of the Devil\u201d; Dead collaborator Bruce Hornsby<\/strong> performed \u201cStanding on the Moon”; and Zac\u00a0Brown<\/strong> and Marcus King<\/strong> performed “Bertha.”<\/p>\n

John Mayer<\/strong>, a member of Dead & Company, had the final guest performance of the night, performing an over 10 minute version of \u201cTerrapin Station.\u201d He later returned to close the show with Dead & Company, who performed \u201cAlthea,\u201d \u201cSugar Magnolia,\u201d and \u201cTouch of Grey.\u201d<\/p>\n
