The Who<\/strong>\u2019s Pete Townshend<\/strong>\u2019s solo career is being celebrated with a new box set.<\/p>\n

Pete Townshend The Studio Albums<\/em>, dropping March 28, will consist of eight CDs, featuring newly remastered versions of seven Townshend albums \u2014 1972\u2019s Who Came First<\/em>, 1977\u2019s Rough Mix (with Ronnie Lane<\/strong>)<\/em>, 1980\u2019s Empty Glass<\/em>, 1982\u2019s All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes<\/em>, 1985\u2019s White City (A Novel),<\/em> 1989\u2019s The Iron Man: The Musical by Pete Townshend<\/em>\u00a0and 1993\u2019s Psychoderelict<\/em>. It will also feature the music-only version of Psychoderelict<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The set also comes with a new foreword by Townshend, new artwork, sleeve notes by band archivist Matt Kent<\/strong>, and a 28-page book filled with rare photos and memorabilia.<\/p>\n

“I have always written first for myself. Not as an artist but for play, for fun, for joy, for self-expression. For therapy? In a way, of course,\u201d Pete shares of his solo\u00a0work. \u201cThese solo songs are therefore not Who exclusions or out-takes, they are part of a story that may well have been very different had I not made some poor decisions in the early ’80s.\u201d<\/p>\n

He adds, \u201cI have stories to tell about every song, and one day I may write a book that tells of that journey, but I’m probably happier spending my time today writing new music rather than explaining how the old stuff came about.\u201d<\/p>\n
