The album, which is considered the band&#8217;s first overtly political record, featured two future U2 classics, \u201cSunday Bloody Sunday\u201d and \u201cNew Year\u2019s Day,\u201d which became the band\u2019s first single to chart on the <em>Billboard<\/em> Hot 100.<\/p>\n<p>The album became the band\u2019s first U.K. number one, knocking <strong>Michael Jackson<\/strong>\u2019s <em>Thriller<\/em> out of the top spot.<\/p>\n<p>In the U.S., <em>War<\/em>\u00a0peaked at 12 on the <em>Billboard<\/em> 200 chart and went on to become the band\u2019s first album to be certified Gold by the RIAA.<\/p>\n<p>A remastered version of <em>War<\/em> was released in July 2008,\u00a0and included a deluxe version that featured a bonus CD made up of B-sides, live tracks and rarities.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2025, ABC Audio.
