On This Day, March 17, 1984…<\/p>\n

Van Halen<\/strong>\u2019s sixth studio album, 1984<\/em>, hit #2 on the Billboard<\/em> Albums chart and stayed there for five weeks.<\/p>\n

The album was denied the top spot by Michael Jackson\u2019s<\/strong> Thriller<\/em> \u2013 which features guest guitar work from Eddie Van Halen<\/strong> on the track \u201cBeat It.\u201d<\/p>\n

While 1984<\/em>\u00a0never reached #1, it did go on to sell more than 10 million copies. It featured such classic Van Halen tracks as their only #1 single \u201cJump,\u201d \u201cPanama,\u201d \u201cHot For Teacher\u201d and \u201cI\u2019ll Wait.\u201d<\/p>\n

1984<\/em> was the last Van Halen album to feature original frontman David Lee Roth<\/strong>, until 2012\u2019s A Different Kind of Truth<\/em>. It was also the last full-length album to feature all four original members of Van Halen, as bassist Michael Anthony<\/strong> was replaced by Eddie\u2019s son Wolfgang Van Halen<\/strong> on the 2012 album.<\/p>\n
