ACTion Programs for Animals offers free adoptions in July

Adoption special celebrates Fourth of July and freedom

LAS CRUCES – ACTion Program for Animals (APA) is holding the much-anticipated, once-a-year free July adoption special to celebrate Fourth of July and freedom. When you adopt from APA in July and take advantage of fee-waived adoptions, you help the non-profit animal rescue free up much-needed space for animals waiting to come into APA’s care.

“This time of year is the most challenging for the municipal shelter and local rescues,” said APA Executive Director Michel Meunier. “With so many puppies and kittens born in the summer months, we are all inundated. And APA can only help rescue more shelter and community animals if we adopt out animals from our adoption center at a regular pace.”
Meunier also said that “free” does not mean “easy,” or without a process.
“Anyone interested in adopting must go to APA’s adoption center to go through our adoption counseling process, and they must be approved to adopt.”

Find your next kitten, cat, or dog at APA’s adoption center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (or by appointment). The adoption center line is 575-571-4654.

The July adoption special excludes small dogs.

About ACTion Programs for Animals

APA is a progressive animal welfare organization seeking to improve the quality of life for companion animals in Doña Ana County and greatly reduce the number of unwanted animals impounded and euthanized at the municipal shelter as well as keep people and their pets together. Since May 2012, APA has rescued more than 5,500 animals. The majority of these have been dogs and cats/kittens pulled from the municipal shelter. APA is able to do this through volunteer work of rescue/foster coordinators, foster families, and donations. For more information about APA, email, call/text 575-644-0505 or visit
