Albuquerque city councilors and the Albuquerque Police Department are teaming up. They just approved thousands of dollars aimed at fighting gun violence in the city, 7-0. KOB TV is reporting it’s for the Gun Buy Back Program and efforts to reduce gun violence in Albuquerque. In 2020, APD is already investigating more than a dozen homicides, several from gun violence. Council members voted to approve $75,000 in general funds for the program. That’s nearly double the amount approved in 2019. City leaders said the $75,000 breaks down to about $100 a gun, but for ones bigger than a handgun, those will cost more.
