“As we begin to get back to ‘normal’ life again, I have been reaching out to individuals and organizations that have gone above and beyond to support our local healthcare heroes.
Many of them deserve additional thanks publicly as they have done some truly extraordinary things.
Virgin Galactic is one such organization. They quickly researched and funded testing devices so we can more rapidly diagnose patients locally. This allowed us to better protect our staff and patients. They also provided PPE and fed our staff, instead of their own, on numerous occasions.
Many local restaurants and businesses partnered to feed our staff as well. There are too many to list, plus I may accidentally omit some. Just know our staff is grateful as am I. Many residents and sewing groups helped by making cloth masks and gowns to help protect our staff as well as patients.
Many thanks go to our great elected officials. They have gone above and beyond to do what’s best for our
community. Mayors, Council members, County Commissioners, and managers listened to input to make
difficult recommendations and decisions to protect our families. And the level of COVID-19 in our area has remained very low compared to other areas.
State officials come to mind for the important roles they performed. Sen. John Arthur Smith has been a strong voice for fiscal responsibility in New Mexico’s budgeting for state priorities. In the process, he has been sensitive to the infrastructure needs of southern New Mexico as well as social and healthcare needs. Sen. Mary Kay Papen has been a tireless supporter of behavioral health services, helping New Mexicans in need and mental health providers as well. She has advocated for the accountability of managed care organizations to make sure that the right services are directed to patients and that providers are paid in a timely manner within a fair regulatory environment.
And, most importantly, I want to personally thank our law enforcement and first responders who join us on the frontlines of this pandemic each and every day. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU.
We are entering a time of a new “normal.” We are all ready to get back to business. We are in the business of taking care of those in the community that needs healthcare.
We, at Memorial Medical Center, take great pride in the safe, high-quality we provide. Our focus was on safety and quality before COVID-19. I assure you our focus is still on safety and quality and will continue in the future. Please join me in supporting all of our great community members that have come together to show support during this difficult time.”
