Doña Ana Community College (DACC) is hosting an event for National Voter Registration Day for the public.
The event, September 17th, will be held at four of DACC’s campuses and centers from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Voter registration will take place in the commons areas of the:
  • East Mesa campus, 2800 Sonoma Ranch Blvd.
  • Espina campus, 3400 S. Espina St.
  • Sunland Park center, 3365 McNutt Rd. in Sunland Park, NM
  • Gadsden center, 1700 E. O’Hara Rd. in Anthony, NM
This event provides a critical opportunity to increase voter registration among community college students, who traditionally have lower registration rates compared to other college students. Given DACC’s large Hispanic student body, there is a unique responsibility to foster greater political engagement within the community.
According to campusvoteproject.org, young adults between the ages of 18 and 29 make up around 21% of the voting population, but voter turnout has been as low as only 17%. The general election is on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
