Great American Cleanup Call for Volunteers

Great American Cleanup Seeks Volunteers

Individual volunteers, groups, and civic organizations are invited to register for this year’s Great American Cleanup event, from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday April 9, 2022.

Keep Las Cruces Beautiful (KLCB), City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department, New Mexico Clean and Beautiful, and Keep Doña Ana County Beautiful programs will sponsor the annual Great American Cleanup. This is a great opportunity to show pride in Las Cruces and surrounding areas.

For information about cleanups in the County, please contact Jesus Fraire at 575/525-6106.

Keep Las Cruces Beautiful will have a centralized location, at Young Park, 1905 Nevada Ave., for information, supplies, and areas identified to be cleaned up. Hundreds of volunteers participate each year to collect litter at parks, schools, streets, and business properties during the Great American Cleanup.

In past years, more than 1,000 volunteers from 60 local groups and organizations collected more than 16 tons of litter during the annual event. The Great American Cleanup is organized locally by KLCB and is a statewide initiative in partnership with New Mexico True.

KLCB and the City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department appreciate the community pitching in to pick up trash during the year and encourages those who do so to observe COVID-19 safety guidelines by staying in small groups, practicing social distancing, wearing face coverings, and keeping hands clean.

Volunteers can pick up supplies at Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, 304 W. Bell Ave., from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, from April 4 to April 8. To register online go to the City of Las Cruces website at:
