The Las Cruces City council will hold a work session at some point in the future to discuss the possibility of reducing the minimum wage increase scheduled for the first of the year. It would mirror the state wage law. Mayor Ken Miyagishima said the city needs some compassion for the local restaurant industry.

Councilor Johanna Becomo was not in favor of the wage reduction, but the Mayor said there is another consequence that could come from the mandated increase, saying, “I really think business owners are really going to weigh whether to stay open and now you have an employee out of a job.”
