Las Cruces Stand-Down Coming Wednesday November 10th, 2021

The Las Cruces Stand-Down, a day of free services for homeless Veterans,
Veterans at risk of homelessness, and any Veteran in need

Las Cruces, NM – The original Stand Down for Veterans was modeled after the Stand Down concept used during the Vietnam War to provide a safe retreat for units returning from combat. Today, Stand Down refers to a community-based intervention program to assist all Veterans who are homeless or at risk of being homeless with information and services. A Veteran is defined as every Military Veteran, regardless of county or state of residence.

The Stand Down, to be held from 9:00am to 1:00pm on Wednesday November 10th, 2021 at the J.M. Carriere VFW Post 10124 at 709 S. Valley Dr. in Las Cruces, will provide a day of FREE services and resources to include Service Officers, Veterans Administration Benefits, Housing Services, VA Disability Services, Social Security Services, Dental Care, Legal Aid, comfort kits, hot breakfast (begins at 7:30am) and lunch, haircuts, and much more! All homeless veterans, veterans at risk of homelessness, and any veteran in need are welcome to choose from this large variety of services, resources, items and goods that best meets his/her needs. Family members are welcome.

The Stand Down is a time for the community to connect with the homeless Veteran population and address this crisis that affects every city and state in this country. The “Hand Up Not a Handout” philosophy of the Stand Down is carried out through the work of volunteers and organizations in Las Cruces.
