Miley Cyrus wanted to make sure that nobody else would claim the Bob Mackie dress she wore to the Grammy Awards earlier this year.

Ahead of many of Mackie’s designs going on sale via Julien’s Auctions, Miley acquired the dress, which she wore while performing “Flowers” at the ceremony, for her personal archive. She also won her first-ever Grammy that night.

Miley also made a “substantial contribution” to the charitable arm of the Recording Academy, MusiCares, as part of the purchase.

Mackie said in a statement, “Miley’s performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards marked an unforgettable moment in her career. As the designer of this dress, I couldn’t imagine it on anyone else. That girl was born to perform!”

And Miley said, “This dress represents more than a performance – it’s a celebration of the relationship between music, artistry and glamour. This performance was a pivotal moment in my life and to have Bob Mackie’s support in securing it means the world to me.”

The dress was to be sold as part of Unmistakably Mackie, a collection of the designer’s creations. But there are still plenty of pieces to bid on, including dresses worn by Pink, Cher, Joan Collins and Carol Burnett.
