Camila Cabello<\/strong>\u00a0is in\u00a0Park City, Utah<\/a>, for the Sundance Film Festival, promoting her new film\u00a0Rob Peace.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>It\u00a0turns out it was her performance in the 2021 Prime Video update of\u00a0Cinderella<\/em>\u00a0that\u00a0won her the part \u2014 no audition needed.<\/p>\n

The director of\u00a0Rob Peace,\u00a0<\/em>Chiwetel Ejiofor<\/strong>,\u00a0tells\u00a0Variety<\/em><\/a>\u00a0that when he saw Camila in\u00a0Cinderella,<\/em>\u00a0he knew she’d be perfect for\u00a0<\/em>the film, even though it’s neither a musical nor a comedy, and gave her the part without requiring her to try out for it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ejiofor, who also wrote the film and stars as Peace’s father, told\u00a0Variety, “<\/em>I was struck by her charisma.” During a discussion with\u00a0Variety\u00a0<\/em>about the film, he told Camila, “I knew you\u2019d be perfect for the role. I was thrilled when you said you\u2019d join us on this journey.\u201d Camila replied, “I was thrilled when you asked.”<\/p>\n

Rob Peace<\/em>\u00a0is a drama based on the true story of a Yale University graduate who was forced to sell drugs to help pay his father’s legal bills. It’s based on a\u00a0biography<\/a>\u00a0of Peace written by his Yale University roommate.<\/p>\n

In the movie, Camila plays Naya, Rob’s on-and-off girlfriend. She tells\u00a0Variety<\/em>\u00a0that when it comes to choosing which roles she takes on, “For me, it\u2019s really whatever makes me feel something. It\u2019s not that thought out for me. It\u2019s whatever feels new or challenging, or what I haven\u2019t done before.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year, Camila voiced a character in\u00a0Trolls Band Together.<\/em><\/p>\n
