Saturday, January 27, will mark 10 years since\u00a0Billy Joel<\/strong>\u00a0launched his unprecedented residency at New York\u2019s Madison Square Garden.<\/span><\/p>\n

The residency had Joel packing the house for one show a month, with only some random illnesses and the COVID-19 pandemic keeping him from his scheduled appointment with the Big Apple crowd.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Joel took the monthly gig as a chance to have some fun onstage, mixing his set with classics like \u201cPiano Man,\u201d \u201cOnly The Good Die Young,\u201d \u201cYou May Be Right\u201d and \u201cBig Shot,” with deeper cuts like \u201cLos Angelinos,\u201d \u201cZanzibar,\u201d \u201cSummer of Highland Falls\u201d and \u201cEverybody Loves You Now.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The show also attracted a whole host of special guests, including\u00a0Bruce Springsteen<\/strong>,\u00a0who helped Billy celebrate his 100th show at the Garden in July 2018. Other guests stopping by the residency included\u00a0Elvis Costello<\/strong>,\u00a0ZZ Top<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0Billy F. Gibbons<\/strong>,\u00a0Steve Miller<\/strong>,\u00a0Paul Simon<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Miley Cyrus<\/strong>,\u00a0John Mellencamp<\/strong>,\u00a0Sting<\/strong>,\u00a0AC\/DC<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0Brian Johnson<\/strong>,\u00a0John Fogerty<\/strong>\u00a0and even\u00a0Olivia Rodrigo<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And there’s no doubt the residency has been a huge success. In March 2023 it crossed the $200 million mark.\u00a0It also broke records at the venue, with Joel now holding the record for the most shows at MSG by a single artist.<\/span><\/p>\n

But alas, all good things must come to an end. When\u00a0Joel first announced the gigs he said it would continue \u201cas long as the demand continues,\u201d but in June he finally settled on an end date. He announced he would wrap the residency in July 2024, which will be the 150th MSG show of his career. The final concert is set to happen July 25.<\/span><\/p>\n
