At the Grammy Awards on February 4,\u00a0Mariah Carey<\/strong>\u00a0gave out the first award of the night. But according to the show’s executive producer, a lot of people went to great lengths to make sure she got there on time.<\/p>\n

Grammys executive producer\u00a0Ben Winston<\/strong>\u00a0told the\u00a0Rolling Stone Music Now<\/a><\/em>\u00a0podcast that because of the rain in LA on Sunday, many artists were stuck in traffic. Fifteen minutes before showtime, he was told that Mariah,\u00a0Christina Aguilera<\/strong>,\u00a0Kacey Musgraves<\/strong>,\u00a0Lizzo<\/strong>\u00a0and other artists who were set for early appearances wouldn’t be able to get there in time.<\/p>\n

“If we don\u2019t have Mariah Carey presenting that award in part one, what do you do?” Winston added. “In the end, they got a golf cart and\u00a0[picked] Mariah Carey up out of her SUV that was stuck in traffic, with four people running around the side with umbrellas to make sure she didn\u2019t get so wet that she couldn\u2019t go onstage.”<\/p>\n

“We literally drove a golf cart the wrong way up the freeway and brought her back so she made it on time,” Winston said. As a result, Mariah was there and able to present the\u00a0Best Pop Solo Performance Grammy to\u00a0Miley Cyrus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

And speaking of Miley, Winston also revealed that after her first rehearsal, when he went backstage to talk to her, she told him, “Yeah, I\u00a0think\u00a0<\/em>I\u2019ll do the show.”<\/p>\n

“I looked at her as if to say, \u2018Is she kidding?\u2019 Oh, my God,”\u00a0he recalled. “I actually think that it was more about, \u2018I reserve the right to pull out of this if I don\u2019t fancy it,\u2019 and that\u2019s the superstar she is, really.\u201d<\/p>\n
