The life of hitmaking songwriter\u00a0Diane Warren<\/strong>\u00a0is coming to the Broadway stage \u2014 along with the hits she’s written over the years.<\/p>\n

The musical, called\u00a0Obsessed<\/em>, has started production and will include Diane’s\u00a0hits for artists like\u00a0Cher<\/strong>,\u00a0Aerosmith<\/strong>,\u00a0Celine Dion<\/strong>,\u00a0Whitney Houston<\/strong>,\u00a0Lady Gaga<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Toni Braxton<\/strong>, plus\u00a0Taylor Swift<\/strong>‘s “Say Don’t Go,” the recently released “From the Vault” track from\u00a01989 (Taylor’s Version).<\/em><\/p>\n

The story will follow Diane, who was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome early in her life, as she grows up in suburban LA with a strict mother who expected her to marry and have kids. Instead, Diane decided on a career in music, starting at age 14 and sometimes writing three songs a day.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Her breakthrough hit was\u00a0DeBarge<\/strong>‘s 1985 hit “Rhythm of the Night,” and from there, she was unstoppable. At one point, she had seven songs on the\u00a0Billboard<\/em>\u00a0chart simultaneously, all by different artists.<\/p>\n

The show’s producer,\u00a0Irit TenHengel<\/strong>, says in a statement the idea for the title of the show came to her after a conversation with music mogul\u00a0Clive Davis<\/strong>, who’s worked with Diane for years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“The word Clive kept using in our conversation was \u2018obsessed,'”\u00a0says TenHengel. “Clive repeatedly referred to Diane as being obsessive. She\u2019s obsessed with writing. She\u2019s obsessed with her songs. She\u2019s obsessed with winning an Oscar!”<\/p>\n

Warren recently received her 15th Oscar nomination, this time for\u00a0Best Original Song for “The Fire Inside” from the film\u00a0Flamin’ Hot.\u00a0<\/em>She has yet to win in competition, but was\u00a0given<\/a>\u00a0an honorary Governors Award by the academy in 2022.<\/p>\n
