Elton John<\/strong> and Bernie Taupin<\/strong> are being honored with the Library of Congress\u2019 Gershwin Prize for Popular Song this year, and\u00a0now, we know\u00a0who’ll be on hand\u00a0to help them celebrate.<\/span><\/p>\n

Performers confirmed for the event include Eurythmics<\/strong>\u2019 Annie Lennox<\/strong>, Brandi Carlile<\/strong>, Garth Brooks<\/strong>, Maren Morris<\/strong>, Charlie Puth<\/strong>, Jacob Lusk<\/strong> of Gabriels<\/strong> and hard rockers\u00a0Metallica<\/strong>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

While Metallica may seem like an odd choice for an Elton and Bernie celebration, the artists have worked together in the past. In fact, Elton covered Metallica\u2019s \u201cNothing Else Matters\u201d for their <\/span>Metallica Blacklist<\/span><\/em> tribute album.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Metallica isn\u2019t the only artist with a past connection to Elton and Bernie. Brandi, a well known friend of Elton, joined him onstage for \u201cDon\u2019t Let the Sun Go Down On Me\u201d at his final U.S. show at Dodger\u2019s Stadium in 2022, while Maren\u00a0covered Elton’s \u201cMona Lisas and Mad Hatters\u201d for the 2018 country compilation\u00a0<\/span>Restoration: Reimagining the Songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin<\/span><\/em>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Garth has covered Elton songs in concert and recorded his own version of \u201cDon\u2019t Let the Sun Go Down On Me,” while\u00a0Jacob joined Elton onstage at the U.K.’s Glastonbury Festival in 2023; he’s also set to perform at Elton\u2019s annual Academy Awards viewing party on March 10.<\/span><\/p>\n

Elton John & Bernie Taupin: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song<\/span><\/em> will air Monday, April 8, at 8 p.m. on PBS.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Gershwin Prize, established in 2007, recognizes artists “whose career reflects the influence, impact and achievement in promoting song as a vehicle of musical expression and cultural understanding.” Previous winners include Paul Simon<\/strong>,\u00a0Stevie Wonder<\/strong>,\u00a0Paul McCartney<\/strong>,\u00a0Joni Mitchell<\/strong>,\u00a0Lionel Richie\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Carole King<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n
