{"id":117257,"date":"2024-03-06T21:02:56","date_gmt":"2024-03-06T21:02:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/magic\/2024\/03\/06\/the-doobie-brothers-working-on-new-album-with-michael-mcdonald\/"},"modified":"2024-03-06T21:02:56","modified_gmt":"2024-03-06T21:02:56","slug":"the-doobie-brothers-working-on-new-album-with-michael-mcdonald","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/magic\/2024\/03\/06\/the-doobie-brothers-working-on-new-album-with-michael-mcdonald\/","title":{"rendered":"The Doobie Brothers working on new album with Michael McDonald"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/syndication.abcaudio.com\/files\/2024-03-06\/Getty_DobbieBrothers_030624.jpg\" alt><figcaption>L-R: Doobie Brothers Tom Johnston &amp; Patrick Simmons\/photo credit: Jason Kempin\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Fans of <strong>The Doobie Brothers<\/strong>\u00a0can look forward to some new music soon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In an interview with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/rock\/doobie-brothers-anniversary-tour-new-album-michael-mcdonald-1235624440\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Billboard<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a><span class=\"s1\">, co-founders <strong>Patrick Simmons<\/strong> and <strong>Tom Johnston<\/strong> reveal they&#8217;re finishing up a new album that will feature <strong>Michael McDonald<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The album will be their first with McDonald since 1980&#8217;s <\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">One Step Closer<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0and the first to feature Simmons, Johnston and McDonald\u00a0since 1975\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">Takin\u2019 It To the Streets, <\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\">the band&#8217;s first record\u00a0with McDonald.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt\u2019s very exciting,\u201d Simmons shares about the album. \u201cAt one point I said, \u2018Hey, we\u2019re doing all these dates\u2026 As long as we\u2019re doing this it would make sense to do a record. I think people would really get a kick out of that.&#8217;\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He adds, \u201cWe have yet to find out whether they\u2019ll get a kick out of it or whether we\u2019ll get kicked for it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Simmons says they hope to have the album finished before they head out on the latest leg of their 50th anniversary tour this summer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI would put it half, maybe 60 percent where we\u2019re at now as far as completion,\u201d Simmons says. \u201cThe songs are done. The arrangements are pretty close.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Doobie Brothers will hit the road on the latest leg of their 50th anniversary tour starting June 15 in Seattle, Washington. Special guests on the tour include <strong>Steve Winwood<\/strong> and <strong>The Robert Cray Band<\/strong>.
