Though\u00a0Nelly Furtado<\/strong> hasn’t released an album in quite some time, her impact on other musicians is undeniable: Dua Lipa<\/strong> has said<\/a> that discovering Nelly’s music when she was 6 years old made her want to be a pop star, while\u00a0Drake<\/strong> and Lorde<\/strong> have also cited her as an influence. As you can imagine, Nelly’s pretty happy about that.<\/p>\n

Asked about being an inspiration for younger acts, Nelly tells Euphoria<\/em> magazine<\/a> for a new cover story, “Oh my God, it\u2019s so cool. It makes me proud and happy.\u201d She adds, “I always remember going to my good friend\u2019s birthday and he had very intentionally invited me because he wanted me to meet his good friend Dua Lipa. We finally got to meet and it was something we had been meaning to do for years.”<\/p>\n

“I get proud when I see somebody who\u2019s told me, \u2018Oh, you\u2019ve influenced me,'” the “Say It Right” singer notes. “I literally just saw Dua\u2019s Grammy performance and I was so proud. I was like, \u2018This is f***** awesome!\u2019 It\u2019s a great feeling. I\u2019m just grateful to be even in the conversation, to be totally honest.\u201d<\/p>\n

After returning to the music scene last year with “Keep Going Up,” a collaboration with Justin Timberlake<\/strong> and Timbaland<\/strong>, Nelly is now planning to release a new album, which will be her first since 2017’s The Ride<\/em>.\u00a0She\u00a0tells\u00a0Euphoria<\/em>, “I can\u2019t reveal too much, but it\u2019s gonna be elevated.”<\/p>\n

“We have big plans and I\u2019m so excited about it because I\u2019m in a better head space than ever,” she adds. “I\u2019ve never loved being an entertainer more. I feel like I\u2019m really owning it.\u201d<\/p>\n
