According to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/metheridge\/status\/1775902475200950497?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Eembeddedtimeline%7Ctwterm%5Escreen-name%3Ametheridge%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"css-1qaijid r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\"><strong>post on Melissa&#8217;s X<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span class=\"css-1qaijid r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">\u00a0account, formerly Twitter, the series follows about five female prisoners in the Topeka Correctional Facility in Kansas, Melissa&#8217;s home state. They write letters to Melissa, and she uses them as inspiration for an original song, which she then performs for them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-1qaijid r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">\u201cI\u2019m excited for audiences to join me on this powerful journey and hear these remarkable stories filled with pain and struggle but also hope and healing,&#8221; Melissa says in a statement. &#8220;I hope that this docuseries shows viewers the challenges that women face in our prison system while also serving as a resource to those who currently are struggling.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Melissa has already been involved in a notable documentary on the big screen: &#8220;I Need to Wake Up,&#8221; which she wrote for <strong>Al Gore<\/strong>&#8216;s 2006 film about climate change,\u00a0<em>An Inconvenient Truth<\/em>, won her the Best Original Song Oscar.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2024, ABC Audio.
