Dua Lipa\u00a0<\/strong>shares the process behind the making of her latest single, “Illusion,” in a new <\/span>How it Went Down<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a>\u00a0video for <\/span>Billboard<\/span><\/em>, revealing the song was inspired by her dating life at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dua\u00a0says the idea for the\u00a0track came from a chat she was having with her songwriting partner\u00a0where she was talking about what was going on in her life.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI was in, I guess, the milkshake of singledom. This crazy rollercoaster of just funny stories and I think it just makes for really good writing,\u201d\u00a0Dua says.<\/span><\/p>\n

It sounds like \u201cIllusion\u201d was written about someone who didn\u2019t turn out to be dating material.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s funny when someone thinks that they can trick you or they can be an illusion of some sort and you see right through it, but you choose to like play along because it\u2019s just more funny,\u201d she says. \u201cI guess it\u2019s part of the dating thing where you\u2019re kinda just texting because you\u2019re bored but you could just see right through the bullsh** and so that\u2019s really what\u00a0‘Illusion’ is about.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dua\u00a0also shares the meaning behind the song\u2019s lyric, \u201cI can dance all night to this,\u201d explaining it\u2019s her way of saying, \u201cthere\u2019s nothing that stops me from being able to see through this illusion. Like, I can play you at your own game.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Dua Lipa\u00a0<\/strong>was just named as one of TIME100’s most influential people in the world for 2024, and she\u2019s been announced as one of the performers for the annual TIME100 Gala, happening Thursday, April 25, in New York City. ABC will give fans a peek inside the Gala with <\/span>TIME100: The World\u2019s Most Influential People<\/span><\/em>, airing Sunday, May 12, at 10 p.m. ET.<\/span><\/p>\n
