Train<\/strong> frontman Pat Monahan<\/strong> has reacted to the death of the band’s former bass player, Charlie Colin<\/strong>, who, according to multiple reports<\/strong><\/a>, has passed away<\/strong><\/a> at the age of 58.<\/p>\n

Posting a photo of the band’s original lineup \u2014 Pat, Charlie, Jimmy Stafford<\/strong>, Rob Hotchkiss<\/strong> and Scott Underwood<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Monahan wrote on Instagram<\/strong><\/a>, “When I met Charlie Colin, front left, I fell in love with him. He was THE sweetest guy and what a handsome chap. Let\u2019s make a band that\u2019s the only reasonable thing to do.”<\/p>\n

“His unique bass playing [and] beautiful guitar work helped get folks to notice us in SF and beyond,” Monahan continues. “I\u2019ll always have a warm place for him in my heart. I always tried to pull him closer but he had a vision of his own. You\u2019re a legend, Charlie. Go charm the pants off those angels.”<\/p>\n

Colin left Train in 2003, following the success of their 1998 self-titled first album; their 2001 album,\u00a0Drops of Jupiter<\/em>, with its Grammy-winning title track; and their 2003 album,\u00a0My Private Nation<\/em>, which featured “Calling All Angels.” Colin’s departure was prompted by his substance abuse.<\/p>\n

In the ensuing years, Colin played with a variety of other acts, including his own bands\u00a0Painbirds <\/strong>and the Side Deal<\/strong>, as well as Slipknot<\/strong> and Puddle of Mudd<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Monahan is the only original member of Train’s lineup in the current iteration of the band.<\/p>\n
