Last year\u00a0Taylor Swift<\/strong>‘s name came up during Congressional hearings about Ticketmaster and the concert industry. Well, you’ll be glad to know that it’s not just U.S. politicians who namedrop Taylor while ostensibly discussing serious issues.<\/p>\n

The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan<\/strong>, recently wrote on social platform X<\/strong><\/a> that “as a proud Swiftie” he was happy that Taylor had chosen to play more shows in London than any other city. But the London Evening Standard<\/strong><\/em><\/a> reports that on\u00a0Thursday Khan was asked four times by a member of the opposing political party to name his favorite Swift era \u2014 and he couldn’t.<\/p>\n

Emma Best<\/strong>, an official with the Tory Party, asked Khan during a Q&A session, “I was happy to hear that you are yourself a Swiftie … so I wondered, what is your favorite era?\u201d Khan, a member of the Labour Party, replied, “Well, as an \u2018anti-hero,\u2019 you\u2019ll appreciate that the era I like the best are\u00a0Labour\u00a0eras.\u201d<\/p>\n

Best repeated the question, to which Khan replied, “Oh, listen, I think we\u2019re not going to \u2018shake it out\u2019 today” \u2014 awkwardly getting the song’s title wrong.<\/p>\n

Best persisted, adding, “I\u2019d like to know that it\u2019s your favorite [era] when I\u2019m listening to it.”\u00a0\u201cAs a Swiftie, you\u2019ll appreciate that they\u2019re all my favorites,\u201d Khan shot back.<\/p>\n

To which Best replied, \u201cI think you don\u2019t know one, Mr. Mayor, and I think you\u2019re trying to latch on to the Swiftie stardom … I\u2019m onto you, Mr. Mayor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Khan said, “You know the Tories are desperate when they think association with Taylor Swift will help them win the election.”<\/p>\n

Another Tory official who was present said, “I keep thinking \u2014 Taylor who? I haven\u2019t a clue. I listened to one of her songs the other day \u2014 what tripe.\u201d<\/p>\n
