Shakira<\/strong> is opening up about her split from ex-husband Gerard Piqu\u00e9<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In a new cover story for Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>, Shakira detailed how she felt after the pair announced their breakup in June 2022.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe suffering I felt was probably the greatest I had ever experienced in my entire life, and it kept me from functioning at times,\u201d Shakira said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt felt like someone had stabbed a hole in my chest,\u201d Shakira continued. \u201cAnd the sensation was so real, almost physical. I physically felt like I had a hole in my chest and that people could see through me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shakira said several famous friends checked in on her during that rough period, including Coldplay<\/strong>‘s Chris Martin<\/strong>. Out of support, Chris once sent her a picture of a shattered vase glued back together.<\/p>\n

\u201cKintsugi \u2014 you\u2019re going to be so much stronger once this is over,\u201d Chris told Shakira at the time, referencing a Japanese style of art.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the \u00admetaphor. That you break, and then you get fixed with gold, and you\u2019re more beautiful than you were before,\u201d Martin said. \u201cFor anyone going through a hard time, me included at times, that\u2019s a really powerful thing to hold on to.\u201d<\/p>\n

Returning to music has brought Shakira out of her heartbreak, she says.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has been a journey back to myself and the way there was through my music,\u201d Shakira said. \u201cI\u2019m in a moment where the worst has happened, and this process woke up a new sense of autonomy and independence in me.\u201d<\/p>\n
