{"id":118002,"date":"2024-07-09T15:00:07","date_gmt":"2024-07-09T15:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/magic\/2024\/07\/09\/documentary-coming-on-sarah-mclachlans-90s-all-female-festival-lilith-fair\/"},"modified":"2024-07-09T15:00:07","modified_gmt":"2024-07-09T15:00:07","slug":"documentary-coming-on-sarah-mclachlans-90s-all-female-festival-lilith-fair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/magic\/2024\/07\/09\/documentary-coming-on-sarah-mclachlans-90s-all-female-festival-lilith-fair\/","title":{"rendered":"Documentary coming on Sarah McLachlan&#8217;s &#8217;90s all-female festival Lilith Fair"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/syndication.abcaudio.com\/files\/2024-07-09\/Getty_sarah%20maclachlan_070924.jpg\" alt><figcaption>Sarah McLachlan performs at Lilith Fair in 1998; CHERYL DIAZ MEYER\/Star Tribune via Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lilith Fair, the festival founded by Canadian star\u00a0<strong>Sarah McLachlan<\/strong> in 1997, became a cultural gamechanger by featuring a lineup of women or women-led acts exclusively.\u00a0 Now, the groundbreaking festival will be the subject of an upcoming documentary, according to<em> <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/lilith-fair-documentary-sarah-mclachlan-sheryl-crow-1235940503\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>The Hollywood Reporter<\/strong><\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The doc, co-produced by <strong>Dan Levy<\/strong>&#8216;s Not a Real Production Company, will feature interviews with Sarah, as well as Lilith Fair alums <strong>Bonnie Raitt<\/strong>,<strong> Natalie Merchant, Sheryl Crow<\/strong>,<strong> Jewel<\/strong>, the<strong> Indigo Girls<\/strong>,<strong> Emmylou Harris<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0Erykah Badu <\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0M\u00fda<\/strong>, as well as current female singer\/songwriters<strong> Brandi Carlile<\/strong> and <strong>Olivia Rodrigo<\/strong>.\u00a0 It will also utilize more than 600 hours of archival footage, as well as interviews with fans and organizers.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to the <em>Hollywood Reporter,<\/em> Levy says,\u00a0\u201cWhat Sarah built with that festival changed so much for so many people. And while it is now seen as an odds-defying success story, it was an uphill battle every step of the way. And there is a lot to be learned from that story.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to featuring major acts, Lilith Fair, which ran from 1997 to 1999, also helped to launch the careers of acts like <strong>Nelly Furtado<\/strong>,<strong> The Dixie Chicks<\/strong>,<strong> Missy Elliott<\/strong> and<strong> Christina Aguilera<\/strong>. Other participants included<strong> Tracy Chapman<\/strong>,<strong> Fiona Apple\u00a0<\/strong>and<strong> Lisa Loeb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The documentary will be released theatrically in Canada, and the Canadian Broadcasting Company will premiere it sometime during the 2025-2026 festival season.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2024, ABC Audio.
